When Two Fabrics Fall in Love: The Joy of Merging Textiles in My Making Process

There’s something deeply satisfying about merging two fabrics to create something entirely new – especially when it’s for a meditation cushion. I think of it as a tiny love story stitched together, where colour meets texture, print meets personality, and the result is something that feels both beautiful and useful.
In my studio, fabric scraps and rolls sit patiently waiting for their perfect match. Some are bold and vibrant, others soft and soothing. I often lay them out side by side, seeing how they speak to each other. Sometimes the combinations are surprising – a mustard floral next to a muted stripe, or a playful print paired with a solid tone – but when it clicks, it really clicks.
Creating meditation cushions is already a mindful process. I fill them with care, thinking about how they’ll support someone’s practice, their posture, their moments of stillness. But when I merge textiles, there’s an extra bit of soul poured in. It’s like telling a story in cloth – a story of balance, harmony, and connection.
I think that’s why I’m drawn to this style of making. It reminds me that even in our differences, we can come together to create something beautiful and grounded.
If you’ve ever had one of my meditation cushions, you’ll know – no two are quite the same. And that’s the magic of it.
Thanks for supporting my small handmade business and all the tiny decisions (and big cups of tea!) that go into every piece.
With love,
Janet x
